ASCAP Honors Independent Artist GRAND

August 15, 2001, New York, NY -- ASCAP, the world renowned performing rights organization, today announced the selection of Pennsylvania based group GRAND as the "audio portrait of the week," at ASCAP.com. Over the course of the last two years only 75 artists worldwide have been featured by ASCAP in this unique format, which focuses on promising and rising ASCAP artists. Last week's featured audio portrait at ASCAP.com was Old 97s.

To access the audio portrait of GRAND, listeners should go to: http://www.ascap.com and select the "audio portraits" option from the main menu.

"We are extremely honored to be recognized by such a prestigious organization and appreciate all of the work ASCAP does to support its member artists" said Jason Karaban, lead singer of GRAND.

The ASCAP audio portrait is a unique format created by BEHINDtheBEAT.com, which uses state of the art technology and production techniques to craft profiles of artists in the context of their newly released material. Listeners are able to hear the artist discuss the underlying foundation behind the songs and music.

GRAND was also selected to appear in a BMG showcase event on August 25, 2001 at Six Flags-Great Adventure in New Jersey. The event called "Sam Goody's Presents," features all major label acts including: Blu Cantrell, Trickside and Smartbomb. GRAND will be the only independent artist in the BMG lineup.

This recognition of GRAND comes on the heels of their debut release produced by John Hampton (Gin Blossoms - New Miserable Experience) and recorded at Ardent Studios (3 Doors Down, REM) . The 13 track self-titled release on New York based Ascend Records is beginning to attract attention from radio, print and online media. BEHINDtheBEAT.com hails, "GRAND's self-titled debut...is an impressive collection of rock and power-pop tunes performed with flair and sung by Jason Karaban, an evocative singer-songwriter whose voice looms large over the band's diverse grooves and textures."

GRAND will tour continuously the remainder of 2001 focusing on the Northeast Corridor.

WORKHOUSE PUBLICITY announces Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana in New York for the Ultimate Hollywood Party

Author by Anonymous

NEW YORK- Come and mingle with the gods and goddesses of today’s Tinseltown in the pages of Hollywood: a book conceived by Dolce & Gabbana as an homage to the “Hollywood from which we always draw the imagery that informs our designs”. With Hollywood, the design team of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana present their own production with a truly all-star cast. Designed by Visionaire and published this November by Assouline, Hollywood features over a hundred astonishing portraits of the most compelling cinematic celebrities of our time (Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Madonna, Jennifers Lopez and Aniston, Johnny Depp, Julianne Moore, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Nicolas Cage, Salma Hayek, Meg Ryan, Kate Winslet, Monica Bellucci to name a few). Capturing the glamour, power, seduction, romance, and red carpet moments of Hollywood’s brightest stars through the lenses of the world’s most exciting photographers including: Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier, Ellen Von Unwerth, Michel Comte, Gilles Bensimon and Sante D’Orazio. Hollywood focuses on the unforgettable leading men and women who filter fashion through their own mesmerizing personas. It is to these talented artists, that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana pay tribute with Hollywood. Once upon a time, the great movie stars lived only in the imaginations of two small Italian boys—one the son of a tailor; the other the son of a factory worker. Inspired by the incredible fantasies they saw on the big screen, each boy dreamed larger than life. Now, theirs is a marquee name in its own right. Internationally regarded as masters of glamour and sensuality themselves, Dolce & Gabbana set the trends with their unique, ever-evolving, take on fashion An extraordinary retrospective of their impressive careers, Hollywood takes you behind-the-scenes and offers a sneak peak into the hearts and souls of Dolce & Gabbana. See how celluloid history is made from the inside out as Hollywood strips away the veil and reveals in exclusive interviews how stylists, make-up artists, hairdressers and photographers fuse fashion and film to form looks that last longer than a lifetime. This lavish book delves deep into the heart of Hollywood as it chronicles the remarkable relationship between the stars and their styles. Hollywood For Dolce & Gabbana, it’s an affair to remember indeed. Actors become characters when they step onto the set. Each actress embodies the clothes the way she interprets a role. A garment is a line in the script; but the way each piece is put together makes the whole performance.

“Hollywood is a constant for us because without it we would lack a language that is instant and universal.” – Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana’s internationally celebrated collections have often actualized the fantasy of Hollywood; translating the dream factory into a reality all their own. Hollywood is a spirited and sincere “thank you” from Dolce & Gabbana to the town that has granted them, and audiences worldwide, sheer joy, wonder and excitement. This book allows everyone to bask in Hollywood glow; to be a part of the glitter; to have a klieg light shine brightly on their idols in an exhilarating explosion of what movie magic means to us all. Here’s looking at you, Hollywood, from Dolce & Gabbana. Proceeds from Hollywood will go to charity: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Children’s Action Network.

Dolce & Gabbana is a leading luxury brand at the forefront of fashion and lifestyle. Launched in Milan in 1982 by designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, Dolce & Gabbana quickly grew from a small but critically praised knitwear studio to an international fashion house with two distinct fashion brands for men and women—Dolce & Gabbana, the premiere ready-to-wear line and D&G, a youth-oriented diffusion line. Movie Writes? - Authors focus in on the big screen

Author by Anonymous

March 1, 2004--Harry Potter, one of the greatest literary success stories ever was also one of the biggest grossing movies ever. Are authors writing their books with the movie rights in mind?

“I think most modern authors are marketing orientated, “ says Stephen Bell author of the new release The Magic Islands. “This means they must think and plan clearly for the book, the movie and the merchandising. When I set out the plots in my books I’m always thinking of how the movie industry will be able to make it on the screen.”

However, more pieces than just the plot are tuned to create blockbuster script conversions. Many authors are also constructing strong screen characters in the books and setting the stories in movie friendly locations.

“One of my main thoughts in writing the characters is how they will translate to celluloid,” Stephen adds. “I go for very image orientated mains in my books. In the Magic Islands I chose a younger lead character as that really is the vogue at the moment and let’s be honest, I’m writing something to sell it. I think in the film Marcus should be a very strong character that will resonate with the fans.”

It can be challenged that this mode of writing could destroy the literature by becoming too heavily slanted towards the big screen.

“I think in everything there’s a good balance,” Stephen says. “There are great pieces of literature which are without doubt written with no intent to convert. However, there are as many now that are constructed to bring the two media together and create a more holistic experience for the fans. I can’t help feel that the world of Harry Potter was greatly enhanced by the movie and like wise The Magic Islands would be as well. I think that both parts of the overall experience are great for the fans.”

Nevertheless, it’s not just modern literature that is suitable for the big screen transition. The recent smash success of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy has paid testament that great books do make great films (whether the author intended or not). This masterpiece was converted into a brilliant screenplay and brought to life by the talents of Peter Jackson.

“I thing the shift that has occurred recently,” Stephen says, “is that there’s more premeditation in the plot, characters and dialogue so that they can more easily translated by the script writers. Where every dollar counts in a movie production, anything that speeds up the pre-production process can be a factor in deciding if a book becomes a movie. In The Magic Islands I used a lot of screen style dialogue to help with that process.”

The final ‘must’ in a modern book is that it can become a series, just like the Harry Potter films. It allows the movie studios to create a possible long-term revenue stream. This is crucial to maximise the return on initial investments and capitalise on longer-term merchandising.

“An absolute pre-requisite of my work was to map out the entire trilogy plus a major prequel. The Magic Islands looked towards work like Star Wars to see how to build a successful chain of stories,” Stephen admits. “Many big blockbusters are now filming the sequels at the same time, this was the case with Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions. It all helps the studios to plan production. My follow on books of The Book Of Secrets, The Dark Empress and The Army Of Wizards are ready to roll. This can only help the studios long term plan.”

So, does literature suffer or does it just transition into a modern digital, surround sound era? Does it just make the whole experience easier and richer for the fans? – The critics will decide. But for certain, books like The Magic Islands will spawn chains of action filled movies that will be enjoyed by their eager fans.

JavaMusic.com introduces its latest services to the Independent Music Industry. CD MANUFACTURING at $0.99 apiece and DISTRIBUTION opportunities in Asia.

Author by Anonymous

CD MANUFACTURING SERVICE

JavaMusic is dedicated to the continual development and promotion of the Independent Music Industry and as such, is proud to announce its newest service, CD Manufacturing at EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE prices for small runs.

For a mere $999, JavaMusic’s Standard CD package includes 1000 CDs with 4/1 4 panel inserts, 4/1-tray cards, 2-color print on the CD, clear trays and assembled and polywrapped jewel cases. This puts the price per piece at $0.99.

When the order increases to 2000 units, the price per piece drops to $0.95. Orders over 2000 units are handled on a case-by-case basis.

DISTRIBUTION IN ASIA

JavaMusic understands that one of the challenges faced by independent labels is distribution. In the past, tapping an unsaturated music market like Asia has been out of reach for the independent labels. Independent labels just could not justify the capital outlay or did not have the network of knowledgeable connections to handle sales and distribution outside of their geographic region.

With the advancement in technology, infrastructure and disposable income, Asians are now savvier and more demanding about the kinds of music they listen to. Unlike the United States, the Asian music market is not yet saturated and there is a growing hunger to discover music “off the beaten track.” Now is the opportunity to capture a market hungry for fresh new music.

JavaMusic has a distribution center in Malaysia, where all CDs for distribution are initially housed. Depending on demand per country, JavaMusic then moves the CDs to the specific country, effectively reaching the target audience while minimizing inventory costs for the label. Through JavaMusic, Indie Labels now have the tools to reach countries such as Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, China, and Japan.

CREATING DEMAND FOR NEW MUSIC

JavaMusic supports the distribution of new music by helping to create a demand via its network of Asian publications. These publications are nationwide print and electronic entities that run reviews of artists and albums on a regular basis per contract with JavaMusic.

For questions or information, email Nina.Khan@javamusic.com or call toll-free 1-866-THE NEXT or 949-833-1909 weekdays 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

ARTIST AND INVENTOR, PAUL PUCCIO OPENS GALLERY IN MANHATTAN’S UPPER EAST SIDE

Author by Anonymous

Every object, every form, every sculpture born from his skill and imagination has a distinct mark and style that is his alone, recognizable and inimitable

The opening of Puccio Gallery does not, however, mark the beginning of his career. His work has been recognized by many over the years. One-of-a-kind Puccio pieces have recently been created for Oprah Winfrey and Governor George Pataki.
“We first started out with this wild idea, who knew that it would turn out to be such a magnificent creation,” said Winfrey of her Puccio creation. “It is simply one of the finest pieces of craftsmanship I’ve ever seen.”

Also an inventor, Puccio patented a system in the United States to structurally fortify stone so he would be able to create designs and forms never before possible in marble and onyx. A nine-foot, scratch resistant onyx extension table on display at the gallery is an example of the type of work Puccio’s patented system makes possible.

After a lifetime of work, creativity and imagination his dream of owning his own gallery has become a reality. “When my niece told me about this location, an old Chinese restaurant, I immediately had a vision of what we could transform the space into.” Following eight months of renovation “we can now enjoy the neighbor’s amazement as they peek in the windows,” says Ms. Lucia Giudice, Mr. Puccio’s niece as well as the Gallery Director.
“To see my uncle’s work brings a look of wonderment and amazement to peoples’ faces. I am thrilled to be a part of his project.”

Brian Evans files Provisional Patent

Author by Anonymous

May 21, 2004 -- Brian Evans has filed a provisional patent with the USPTO for an invention that will be used as a tool for marketing compact discs and other commercially released music, including concerts.

Evans has combined sports cards with CD's by having sports stars "trading cards" randomly inserted into CD's which are purchased at retail.

"I think it would be great to buy a say, Frank Sinatra album, and pull an autographed card from the likes of a Yogi Berra," says Evans.

"It brings the sports world into music they might likely have never heard, and vice versa. People will buy CD's just for the hopes of pulling a sports card," says Evans.

Evans has been in talks with Steiner Sports to work on a project together.

"It was just an idea at first, but I didn't realize it was something I could apply for a patent on, and the idea seemed cool," says Evans.

Book Release: Buzz by Carrie Lieber as reviewed by NYT Bestselling author Ellen Tanner Marsh

Book Release:

Buzz

By Carrie Lieber

Imagine your client is a charismatic former police officer, hugely popular with the voters of California and a sure bet to become the state’s next governor. Now imagine that his baby brother is incarcerated at Lompoc Federal Penitentiary, serving 10 years for drug smuggling — and that your client is the cop who busted him and later tampered with the evidence.

Imagine the buzz it will cause when the nightly news picks up on this story, and you’ve got a good idea of the damage control that marketing and public relations expert Madison Morgan has to spin.

The only problem with Maddie is that she’s not particularly adept at spin because her own life is currently spinning out of control. Not only has she been dumped by her boyfriend Jake in exchange for a comely teenager, but she’s also lost the beautiful home and financial security he brought to the relationship. Homeless, overweight, self-doubting and in peril of falling off the alcoholic bandwagon, Maddie Morgan has all the makings of a pitiable antiheroine.

But thanks to author Carrie Lieber’s deftly humorous touch, Maddie comes across

a genuinely likeable heroine anyone could cheer for. Though traumatized by the past and so thoroughly lacking in self-esteem that she allows her marketing firm employees to cow and bully her, she nevertheless proves plucky enough to tackle the brewing political scandal surrounding gubernatorial candidate Al Miller and his infamously felonious brother.

Still, taking control of the “little PR problem” of Brother Willy proves no easy task. For one thing, he’s street-smart and smart-mouthed, and from their first meeting on puts Maddie at a decided disadvantage. Then there are the other aspects of the case that Maddie didn’t count on, such as engaging a high-profile lawyer to investigate the irregularities in Willy’s arrest records, enlisting activists from Medical Marijuana Now to demonstrate for Willy’s release from

Lompoc, and committing her own crime by breaking into a stranger’s house to steal important files.

Lieber’s pacing never flags in narrating these breakneck events and, more importantly, she never loses sight of Maddie herself. Here’s Maddie meeting with one of her clients—one of the last and wealthiest of U.S. oil barons—in his skyscraper office, and all she can do is grapple with her fear of heights. Next she’s sneaking into Lompoc under false pretenses to interview Willy for the first time only to find she’s brought along just a lipstick to take notes with. And instead of dealing with the growing threat to her own personal safety while delving deeper into Willy’s past, Maddie mainly obsesses about not having a date on Valentine’s Day.

But Lieber refuses to let Maddie live up to the “dumb blond” reputation of Willy’s scornful assessment. Instead she skillfully and believably guides Maddie along a path of self awareness to the point where Maddie herself suddenly realizes that, “now that I’d stood on my own for a while without Jake or anyone to catch my fall, a newfound confi dence had started to blossom. It was as if someone had handed me a key to an inner sanctum that till now had been well hidden and untouched.” While Maddie seems surprised by the discovery, the reader knows she’s had it in her all along.

Buzz is a fast-paced blend of suspense and drama narrated by a wise-cracking, decidedly human heroine who not only has the courage to persevere when the going gets tough but to face her own shortcomings with humor and honesty. All of us might do well to take a lesson from Carrie Lieber’s engaging book.

About the Author:

Carrie Lieber studied writing at San Francisco State University’s Creative Writing Program with noted authors such as Ethan Canin and Frances Mayes. In the course of her career she’s worked with various news stations, newspapers, and radio stations. She currently runs the public relations firm she founded in 1996, Maverick Communications.

Buzz is available through Amazon.com; Barnesandnoble.com; Booksinprint.com; BookSurge.com and select bookstores.

Mask Music - Where Classic Music Lives - New Vintage Music Sales and Community site

Author by Anonymous

Don and Mary Knowlton announce their new Mask Music web site, http://www.maskmusic.com. Mask Music is a collection of primarily classic music such as vintage vinyl albums and 45s, 78s and reel-to-reel tapes, as well as other more recent offerings. The music is available for purchase.

Mask Music also has sound bytes of radio airchecks and OTR (old time radio) available for free download, as well as a Message Forum for discussion of various sound, radio, music, and other more general topics.

Some of the formats offered by Mask Music are in limited production, or are gone altogether and are cherished by collectors far and near; such as the vinyl albums and 45s, as well as some old 78s and reel-to-reel tapes.

For those who enjoy old radio airchecks and other old time radio (OTR) sound bytes, Don has been recording them for years, and Mask Music has begun listing these recordings on the site. These recordings are offered as a free download. Check back often, as more will be added.

Join the Mask Music Message Forum to discuss radio airchecks and OTR, or any music, sound or radio topic with Don and the rest of the group. If you would like to be notified when Mask Music's music selections are updated, just register on the Message Forum. Visit http://www.maskmusic.com for details.

Don Knowlton, when asked about Mask Music, stated, "I've always loved music. From the first record I paid for with my own money ("Kookie, Kookie - Lend Me Your Comb" by Edd Brynes), I was hooked. My collection grew and diversified through the years as I sought out all that was different as well as the current fads. In high school (around 1968), I discovered FM and so-called 'Underground Radio.' I listened to WNEW-FM, WABC-FM (later became WPLJ) and other commercial stations as well as great college/community stations: WPKN, WBAI and my favorite in those days - WYBC, the college radio station for Yale University. They had some great shows and great DJs for a college station. I first heard Firesign Theatre, Blind Faith, Frank Zappa and many others on a late night show called 'Diversions.' I discovered Jazz on a show called 'Afro-Blue.' In the past few years my collection has grown so large, I must share it with others - in order to make room for new items! About a year ago we started MASK Music, manning a booth at the Atlanta Record Show held semi-monthly. We always try and bring a wide selection to the show."

We asked Don how they chose the name for MASK Music. He said, "At almost every record show someone asks us where we got our name, it's nothing too mysterious, it's Mary's (the better half of Mask Music) initials."

Read more about Mask Music, review the extensive selection of music, download some free audio files, and join the message forum on the Mask Music web site: http://www.maskmusic.com.

The Rhino Brothers

What could be more Canadian than this story of the three Kanachowski brothers who have grown up living, breathing, and dreaming hockey in a ubiquitous small, rough town with five hockey rinks and no bookstores? But don’t worry about clichés. Dwayne Beaver's exciting debut feature straddles the line between sport film and art film. Over the years the big league dream has been stocked by the brothers’ fiercely determined single mother - Gabrielle Rose in an unforgettable, thoroughly toxic, Genie qualifying performance. She is desperate to compensate for all of life's disappointments with some great family triumph. Her hope is Stephan, the youngest, who has made it to the minor leagues, while equally talented Sasha, the eldest, plays with the a local team, the Rhinos. He is eaten out by jealousy after washing out of the big leagues. Only Victor has been able to construct something of a normal life. Strong characters and a wrenching glimpse into the dark side of our national sport add up to a gripping film. The images shot with the Sony 24P HD format, the very same used by George Lucas for the next Star Wars instalment - are smashing.

Blizzard Survivor Tells His Story in the New Book, 'Behind the Mountain'- Nationwide Book Launch From April Through June, 2004

Author by Anonymous

Vista, CA March 16, 2004 -- Blizzard Survivor, Nick Williams first three stops will be: Chicago, San Diego, and Dallas. Ski enthusiasts, Marines, caretakers, and those looking to survive in the corporate world will want to look for 'Behind the Mountain' events and booksignings.

An interview with Nick will be featured in the May 2004 Edition of the Bowker Buyer’s Guide that will be available at the book expo in Chicago this year. Nick can also be heard on a series on radio interviews, short and long, that will play throughout the country, including an interview with Ms. Tobi Knight of KBIG and KOST Radio in the Los Angeles area, and Ms. Antoinette Kuritz of the Writer’s Roundtable.

Corporate Climb and the Lakeshore Athletic Club are co-sponsors of the Chicago leg of the book-tour. Corporate Climb provides an in-depth focus to help teams work together better, be more productive, and innovate more. Their unique teambulding programs provide an exhilarating and safe experience on an indoor rock climbing wall. Participants face the types of challenges at the climbing wall that they also face in the workplace. Susan Harper, President and Co-Founder of Corporate Climb, felt this was an important event to do. “This is not just a story about surviving overwhelming odds on a mountain, or in business. 'Behind the Mountain' dramatically demonstrates the importance of the people in our lives that enable us to be successful. As Nick reminds us, they are the true heroes.”

---Book Description

If you want to be alone, try a blizzard. Where you are cut off and numbed to the bone by silent, deep cold; where you try and rest facing a tree trunk, trying to get through the night; knowing your feet are frozen inside your wet boots. Where every thought is given to getting out of this, keeping up your courage, keeping your blood moving.

You do this by thinking about those you love and who love you. You do it by praying, and knowing that good people are out there trying to find you.

In Nick Williams' case there was something else: training and experience in the corporate environment. He called on what it had taken him to be highly successful in business. He survived by exploiting sound principles of commitment, attitude, resourcefulness, perseverance, and teamwork. In this corporate survival book, you'll find the finest practical advice on how to handle yourself in tough spots, be they life threatening to you, or threatening to your job performance or the company itself. Read and learn.

'Behind the Mountain: A Corporate Survival Book' is a compilation of transcribed actual comments by the key players in the crisis as they work through how they handled it. All other comments and observations are Nick's and worth reading more than once.

Early Galley Reviews

---Corporate Reviews

Mr. Steve Reinemund, Chairman and CEO, PepsiCo, Inc.

'Nick tells a powerful life story that demonstrates his rules for success in a very engaging way - a motivating challenge.'

Kent Bry, School Director, Adventure Ski & Snowboard School

'I enjoyed 'Behind the Mountain' so much that I had my 12 year old daughter read it in preparation for life, and before going to 6th grade camp to learn about survival and the outdoors. Then she wrote her next school book report on it. Now her teacher wants to read it and has borrowed our copy. We both found Nick’s story hard to put down as soon as we started reading it.

As a P.S.I.A. (Professional Ski Instructors of America) certified ski and snowboard instructor for over 25 years, this book is a must read for everyone who enjoys skiing and snowboarding AND for everyone who lives to work and/or play in the mountains. It points out what many of us take for granted and think could never happen to us, but clearly shows what could easily happen to any of us at a moments notice.

It also reinforces my most fundamental philosophy of teaching skiing and of life by reminding us the importance of leaving out negative thoughts and words and not to point out what someone is doing wrong, but instead how important it is to speak and act positively at all times and think and speak about what to do.'

T. Bartlett, CEO IDEC

A must read for anyone wanting to make it to the top.

Emily Ridley, President EMC

Read how Nick made it off the mountain and learn how to make it through life.

Susan Harper, President and Co-Founder of Corporate Climb

'This is not just a story about surviving overwhelming odds on a mountain, or in business. 'Behind the Mountain' dramatically demonstrates the importance of the people in our lives that enable us to be successful. As Nick reminds us, they are the true heroes.'

---U.S. Marine Review

Lieutenant Colonel Mark Losack

U.S. Marines

'I thought 'Behind the Mountain' was a wonderful read. I think Nick captured the leadership traits and principles he learned as a Marine and quite effectively employed them in the corporate world.'

---Internet Book Reviews

Suzie Housley, Senior Editor, MyShelf.Com

'Behind the Mountain' is sure to go down in history as one of the most remembered on the subject of how to maintain a positive attitude while climbing the corporate ladder.

James Cox, Editor-in-Chief, Midwest Book Review

'Written by Nick Williams (a successful businessman of over twenty-five years' experience) with the assistance of Patricia Williams and Katie Thompson, 'Behind The Mountain: A Corporate Survival Book' compiles actual transcribed comments of key individuals faced with difficulties and problems to solve for their corporations. A nicely organized anthology of long lasting wisdom superbly presented in the form of countless bite-sized vignettes, 'Behind The Mountain' offers the reader a genuinely 'hands-on' glimpse into the kind of creative thinking and problem solving that contemporary corporations truly require.'

Chuck Gregory, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA

http://www.blueear.com

'...he’d had survival training in the marines; that helped him. He had a caring, loving, and effective support team in his family, friends, and employees; that helped him. He had a deep and abiding love of family and love of God; that helped him. The triumvirate of assistance from these sources supported him through the ordeal that only started out on that mountain. His support team found another support team to help him through the ensuing months. Now he is telling us the story, and sharing the 5 rules he’s developed for survival. These are rules that will help you survive on a mountain, alone, fighting the elements. But these are also rules that will help you survive in a company, in a business, when unemployed, or wherever you happen to be. They’re Nick’s Golden Rules for Survival and Success. They’re rules to help with your life....His story is miraculous and inspiring..'

Social Networking Put to Work for Local Businesses Tying in Friend-to-Friend Recommendations with Donation Rewards

Author by Anonymous

San Diego, CA April 6, 2004 -- Genuosity Inc., a leader in small business social network marketing technology, is pleased to announce the launch of two new tools that benefit consumers, their network of friends, their favorite local small businesses and their favorite non-profit organization. OrderGenerator (http://www.ordergenerator.com) provides small businesses with an automated toolset that rewards their satisfied customers when they refer new business. HummingBoard (http://www.hummingboard.com), the first social network for social good, enables consumers to recommend their preferred products and services, share special deals on those recommendations with their social network, and earn donations to their selected charity when others accept the offer.

With the importance of social networking being validated by recent announcements by Microsoft, AOL, Google’s Orkut, Friendster, Tribe.net, LinkedIn and Spoke, Genuosity’s new tools are the first to put the power of social networking to work for small businesses and their customers.

Genuosity’s patent-pending applications represent the convergence of some of the most powerful trends on the web:

* social networking software uniquely applied to the small business enabling their customers to recommend them to friends and to provide testimonials,

* local search geotargeting enabling consumers to conduct a focused search for local businesses and services by utilizing merchant reputation ratings similar to eBay’s rating system but based on first degree, second degree and third degree friend recommendations, and;

* cause marketing tools that allow businesses to motivate customer referrals with donation rewards to the referrer’s cause of choice.

Working together, both OrderGenerator and the HummingBoard addresses one of the biggest challenges of the Internet, which is how to connect local merchants need for customer referrals and the consumer’s need for recommendations for reputable local services.

For small businesses such as restaurants, landscapers, painters, realtors, day spas, hair salons and others, attracting new customers is incredibly challenging. But with OrderGenerator merchants can gain a competitive edge for growing their business by empowering their best asset – their satisfied customers - to recommend them to their friends and colleagues. OrderGenerator uniquely helps businesses grow their business with an automated customer referral system. It is the first tool of its kind that can gather testimonials and automate customer referrals in a non-push way, while rewarding referrals with a donation to the referrer's cause of choice.

The HummingBoard is an online social networking community that connects people to obtain qualified recommendations for preferred local merchants and service providers. Members can identify their favorite service providers or products in a variety of categories, ranging from plumbers or landscapers to restaurants to books or CDs. All of this information is posted on their personal board, and can be shared with approved members of their network. Whenever a visitor uses a vendor based on a recommendation from the Hummingboard, a donation reward offered by the vendor will be made to the preferred nonprofit of the recommender. This provides individuals with a unique and creative way to support their favorite non-profit organizations.

Qualified recommendations from a known friend or colleague are much more powerful for generating new business than traditional advertising or anonymous recommendations on a website. With the HummingBoard social network, a simple recommendation becomes a validated testimonial to be shared with thousands of local people seeking that product or service.

Most importantly, the HummingBoard is the first social network site where consumers can earn donations to their cause of choice. “We understood early on that to effectively integrate social networking tools with customer referral marketing tools there can be no perception of bias in the recommendations. By offering a donation reward, friends recommendations can remain trusted and not be tainted by other motivations for personal gain. Additionally, by supporting non profit organizations, the HummingBoard and OrderGenerator elevate social networking to not only facilitate local commerce, but also to work for social good” said Herbert Ong, President and CEO of Genuosity.

Genuosity believes that the company is uniquely positioned to partner with search engine companies, social networking companies, and local advertiser portals enabling an enhanced user experience and a new local advertising revenue channel.

About Genuosity

Genuosity Inc. is dedicated to the development of tools that benefit consumers, their network of friends, their favorite local merchants and their favorite non-profit organization. Founded in 2000, Genuosity is a privately held company with offices in San Diego and Vancouver.

Irish Screen to premiere Film Series at the American Cinematheque (Mar 14-17)

Author by Anonymous

Presented in association with Bord Scannán na hÉireann - The Irish Film Board, the Irish Screen Los Angeles, and Harrison Cheung & Associates.

Ireland has been seen through many filmmakers' eyes over the years, from John Ford's THE QUIET MAN to David Lean's RYAN'S DAUGHTER. Recently, a new generation of Irish filmmakers, inspired by the success of homegrown directors such as Jim Sheridan and Neil Jordan, have begun telling their own stories of Ireland, ancient and modern, urban as well as rural, gay as well as straight, peaceful as well as bloody.

To coincide with the 10th Anniversary of the Irish Film Board, this year's series features some of the most exciting new voices from Ireland. The festival leads off with director Aisling Walsh's searing portrait of life in an Irish reformatory school, SONG FOR A RAGGY BOY, starring Aidan Quinn, followed by the exquisite drama THE MAPMAKER from director Johnny Gogan, and the romantic comedy GOLDFISH MEMORY from Liz Gill, about the perils of dating, both straight and gay, in modern Dublin.

The series also includes two superb documentaries: Alan Gilsenan's THE GHOST OF ROGER CASEMENT, examining the infamous case of a knighted Irishman who was executed by the British in 1916 on charges of treason; and Kim Bartley and Donnacha O'Briain's THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED, a gripping, insiders' portrait of the recent attempted coup against Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. Other highlights include a special Shorts Program, and a closing night St. Patrick's Day Party with the boisterious comedy MYSTICS from director David Blair - !

Series Compiled by Dennis Bartok, Gwen Deglise, Chris D., Paul Balbirnie and Julie LaBassiere. Shorts programmed by Andrew Crane. Special Thanks to: Rod Stoneman and Moira Horgan/IRISH FILM BOARD.

Friday, March 14 - 7:00 PM

SONG FOR A RAGGY BOY, 2003, 93 min. From director Aisling Walsh, SONG FOR A RAGGY BOY is a searing, highly personal drama of a group of young boys trapped inside a hellish Irish reformatory school in the late 1930's, and the dedicated teacher (Aidan Quinn) who tries to help them. Iain Glen (MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON) gives an unforgettably chilling performance as the school prefect, Brother John, who wages an all-out war against the boys in his charge, including newcomers John Travers and Chris Newman. A selection of the 2003 Sundance Film Festival.

Friday, March 14 - 9:30 PM

THE MAPMAKER, 2002, 100 min. Dir. Johnny Gogan. Bryan F. O'Byrne is Richie Markey, a computer-savvy mapmaker hired to use his 3-D imaging system to make a map of the area surrounding Roseveigh, his grandfather's hometown on the North/South Irish border. He doesn't realize that he's about to both figuratively and literally unearth

skeletons from still percolating local hostilities, leading to a violent string of paybacks. Susan Lynch is magnificent as Jane Bates, a married schoolteacher Richie falls in love with, who has lost a loved one to the violence. A surprisingly complex, compassionate and even-handed thriller with gorgeous locations and a hope for a

brighter future. With Brendan Coyle, Ian McElhinney.

Saturday, March 15 - 5:00 PM

THE GHOST OF ROGER CASEMENT, 2002, 90 min. Dir. Alan Gilsenan. "It brings together two ingredients that usually produce fireworks: Sex and Politics," observes a historian about the infamous trial and execution of Roger Casement, a case that has inflamed Irish sentiments since his death in 1916. Casement was an unlikely rebel hero: an Irishman who served in the British Foreign Office, was knighted for uncovering colonial abuses in the Congo, and later negotiated with the German government during World War I in an attempt to overthrow British rule in Ireland. Following his arrest on

charges of treason, the British government produced the notorious (and possibly forged) "Black Diaries," detailing Casement's homosexual love affairs.

Saturday, March 15 - 7:15 PM

GOLDFISH MEMORY, 2002, 85 min. From director/writer Liz Gill, GOLDFISH MEMORY is a breezy, sexy look at the perils of dating, straight and gay, in modern Dublin. Clara is a 22-year old college student with bee-stung lips, who finds her lothario professor boyfriend smooching with another undergrad - so Clara hops into bed with a lonely female television reporter. Meanwhile, bike messenger Red has the hots for bartender David, who can't decide whether he's straight or gay. The perfect date night movie, Irish style. Starring Sean Campion, Flora Montgomery, Keith McErlean, Stuart Graham, Fiona O'Shaughnessy and Fiona Glascott.

Sunday, March 16 - 4:00 PM

Irish Shorts Program:

Glenn Marshall's "Mannequin" (3 min.) Life, from a mannequin's point of view. Conor Horgan's "The Last Time" (13 min) Desperate after a medical diagnosis, a middle-aged woman begins to look for love in all the wrong places. Andrew Kavanagh's "When Bridie Called Gerry" (3 min.) An elderly lady calls a radio show to retell her unusual honeymoon. Andrew Baird's "Up The Country" (13 min.) A romantic comedy with the unlikely elements of stolen signs, the supernatural

and pastries. David Glesson's "Hunted" (3 min.) A man comes to a horrifying realization. Tom Cosgrove's "All God's Children" (11 min.) Beautifully shot period piece set in 1857 on the barren moors. A man accused of murder turns the tables on his captors. Eamon Little's "Nobody Home" (3 min.) A dramatic day in the life of an average answering machine. Colm McCarthy's "The Making of a Prodigy" (12 min.) Eerie, powerful short about the delicacy of genius. Tom Collin's "The Phantom Cnut" (3 min.) Funny look at the trauma of Catholic school. Anthony Byrne's "Meeting Che Guevara and the Man From Maybury Hill (16 min.) Surreal, beautiful meditation on revolution, imagination and hero worship. Features John Hurt.

Sunday, March 16 - 6:30 PM

THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED, 2002, 72 min. Dirs. Kim Bartley and Donnacha O'Briain. While shooting a documentary on Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, an Irish film crew found themselves caught in the middle of an attempted coup by opposition leaders and members of the military (who claimed they were staging a "peaceful,

democratic takeover"). While the new, pro-Bush leaders quickly whisked Chavez away to an undisclosed location, hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans poured into the streets, demanding his return - leading to one of the most gripping and suspenseful reversals of fortune ever captured on film.

Monday, March 17 - 7:15 PM

MYSTICS, 2003, 90 min. Dir. David Blair. Dave and Locky are two old-timers who once earned their living as part of a theatrical company. Nowadays, by holding "seances" at their self-styled Temple of Truth (a room above a Dublin pub), they earn money by pretending to communicate with the dead. It's a harmless scam, but one that gets increasingly complicated when a local gangster dies and his family attempts to communicate with him. For "increasingly complicated"

read "downright dangerous" when the dead gangster actually makes contact. Starring Milo O'Shea, David Kelly, Maria Doyle

Kennedy and Liam Cunningham.

All screenings at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, CA! Admission is $9.00.

The Irish Screen is dedicated to the celebration of the poetry and passion of the Irish Voice in cinema. The Irish Screen presents cinema that is distinctly Irish in form, function and beauty, providing the Irish community in Southern California with a forum to experience the creative contribution of the Irish film industry.

BWAC presents its Water Show at the Red Hook Pier.

Author by Anonymous

July 9, 2004 -- There is no better time to visit Red Hook than this summer when the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) presents its Water Show at the Red Hook Pier. With cool breezes along the waterfront and refreshing new works of art inside an historic Civil War era warehouse gallery, visitors can simultaneously experience a unique art scene and a Brooklyn waterfront neighborhood. Each artwork at the Water Show relates in some manner, whether representational, abstract or conceptual, to the theme of water. Expect to find a myriad of water-full imagery: a stormy ocean day on Fire Island, a festive Coney Island boardwalk, a super fun-filled Brighton Beach, or the majestic New York Harbor.

Over 600 pieces of art are on exhibition including photography, paintings, mixed media, sculpture; all contemplating water as a theme. Some 300 BWAC member artists are participating, including established and emerging artists, as well as a many new artists showing at BWAC for the first time. As with any thematic show, there is a gamble: does the theme produce art that creates fresh, new associations or does it artificially limit the artistic effort. Organizers for the Water Show believe the public will be rewarded with an abundance of visual excitement. "The Water Show has an inspiring effect on all who visit. Spend the afternoon and take in the amazing vistas that the pier provides and the breeze that flows in from the bay," says BWAC President John Strohbeen. The wide range of art on a single theme encourages visitors to contemplate the artists' interpretations, share their reactions, and really enjoy the art viewing experience.

"It's a truly exhilarating collection of work," says Water Show Chairperson, Daniel Durning, "and a must-see for anyone checking out the Brooklyn art scene."

BWAC's group exhibitions, notably its recent Pier Art Show which this spring drew record numbers of visitors, have developed into a new market for art collectors and critics. By promoting art that is affordable, accessible and collectible, BWAC fulfills its mandate as a non-profit arts organization dedicated to bringing the artist community and the public together. Each purchase of art from BWAC continues to reinforce the view that art can be discovered outside of Chelsea and that it is collectible, affordable, and enjoyable. "As the shows become stronger," says BWAC President John Strohbeen, "more and more purchases take place. This is what BWAC is here for; to present excellent works that are meant to be collected."

The opening reception for the Water Show is on Saturday July 17th from 12pm to 6pm. Contemporary Violinist Christian Howes will be performing two sets during the opening at 2pm and 3:30pm. Howes has performed on such prestigious stages as the Newport, Toronto, Ottawa, and Tri-C jazz festivals and at such world-renowned venues as Birdland, Iridium, the Knitting Factory, Blues Alley, and the Village Vanguard.

"Howes' music is such a great metaphor for the work at the Water Show, rich, diverse, refreshing, and built upon a strong tradition," says BWAC President John Strohbeen, "It will be a truly wonderful opening day."

All in all if you want to see an excellent collection of art, and want an excuse to get out of the city on a hot summer weekend, come to the Red Hook waterfront, cool off, and enjoy the amazing views of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty.

LALate Announces 2nd Annual Best of LA Spring Awards: Top Venues and Parties Named for Spring '04

Author by Anonymous

LOS ANGELES, CA April 22, 2004 -- A virtual unknown club for mainstream clubgoers shares top honors with a Hollywood heavyweight in the 2nd Annual LALate Best of LA Spring Awards announced today in Los Angeles. The LALate Awards name the top in LA nightlifestyle for Spring 2004 from venues to parties.

LALate.com, the most successful company on nightlifestyle in LA, with spinoff sites for Teens (TeenLate.com) and New York (NY Late.com), is the preeminent authority on nightlifestyle with one of the fastest growing followings of clubgoers in the United States and the largest following of clubogers in Southern California. In a word, as Zagat's is to restaurants and Frodor's is to travelling, LALate is to nightlifestyle. LALate is the first ever one-stop websites for residents and travelers to LA to get into the most exclusive VIP-only parties listing several dozen events sometimes per night featuring top A+ celebrities, from mansion parties to top LA venues, to secret thousand person warehouse parties with acts that rival major stadium performances.

With the largest memberships of clubgoers in Southern California and a formidable presence in eastern atlantic cities, LALate. with its ability to drop five figure sized email campaigns, has recently been sought after by corporate sponsors and venues seeking to appeal to this affluent young adult demographic.

LALate's reputation to predict what's going in and going out has garnered it a nationally reported upon success. But for LALate, happiness is saving its patrons a fortune on cover every night of the week, and publishing the most talked about weekly newsletter in Los Angeles. LALate has been featured nationally and in the Los Angeles Times.

Today's LALate Best of Spring LA Awards names the best in nightlifestyle in LA for this spring out of an estimated 2,000 parties to be carried by LALate by year end. The Awards give nods not just to venues but also to events in LA.

Award Winners

Criteria. To be a #1 venue for the season, a venue needed a combination of many factors all working at once: a) buzz, b) city wide reputation, c) attendance at capacity levels, and d) high percentage of repeat patronage. The LALate winners are the following:

a) Venues

LALate's Top 10 Current Venues in LA for Spring 2004

1. Pearl

2. Vertigos

3. Four Way Tie -

a. El Centro

b. Concorde

c. Orion

d. Sunset Room

Pearl has still proven to be the #1 venue in LA. Despite recent entries into the scene of Concorde, El Centro, and competition from previous favorites Shelter and White Lotus, Pearl, with an exceptional eye to treating its patrons with class, holds a steady grip on #1 through winter and into spring.

But the surprise for many is the jump from the #5 Overall Venue in 2003 to now #2 venue in LA - Vertigos. "We are witnessing at Vertigos something that is a dream come true for many clubgoers", said LALate.com. "For many years, clubgoers, especially males, complained in LA about pretentious crowds in Hollywood of less than average looking, overally made-up people that don't drink, don't dance, and simply flock from new venue to new venue week after week never interacting with people. Vertigos gets 5 stars as the most entertaining venue in LA with the strongest repeat patronage of any LALate-listed venue."

In 2003, LALate first introduced Vertigos as alternative to the Saturdays @ Barfly scene. "But convincing westsiders to head downtown to a predominately Latin crowd, we thought, was going to be difficult. We very wrong." People flocked to Vertigos through winter and now into Spring because of Vertigos use of $1 and $2 drinks promotions, exceptional use of varying music formats (in a given night, you hear 80s retro, todays hiphop and techno, and spanish rock), and stunning light display. "Recently, we attended Vertigos on Saturday. You would have thought 1/2 of the western world was there. This place was off the hook. It's no longer just for latins; you see asians, whites, all ethnicities."

A large tie of past, present, and future huddles the number three spot - El Centro, Concorde, Orion, and Sunset Room.

First, the past. Old favorite that seemed dead is back gangbusters - Sunset Room. Getting thumbs up for its "love to have fun" crowd, this venue, while still suffering from an o-too-crowded dancefloor and high drink spillage numbers from pushing patrons is hands down one of the most entertaining spots in Hollywood, if not the best.

Second, the present: Orion "In the area of fru-fru venues that have basin sinks made of our carved woods from a rainforest somewhere in your bathroom, Orion, the posterchild of the down-and-dirty club, where the graffiti feels as cool as the dark stairwells, attracts more patrons on a given night than two of your Hollywood venues combined." Orion gets top honors for its ability to pull in more people than an American Idol audition, 18 and over patronage, a lightshow that shocks the senses, and incredible music acts. While in many respects so different from the Sunset Rom, it shares a kindship with Sunset as constantly offering jawdropping music and the best clubgoing experiences possible.

Finally, the future. While Concorde is doing very well, El Centro is pulling in a crowd that makes you turn heads. With extreme exclusivity and top promotions, El Centro is the most "hollywood" of the hollywood venues currently. The question is - will El Centro take #1 by late spring? That remains to be seen.

b) Parties

LALate's Top 10 Parties Spring 2004

#1. Von Dutch Party - April, 2004 (Hollywood)

With No Doubt's lead singer and bad boy Dennis Rodman in the house, this was a mega star studded night.

#2. The Carmen Electra and B2K Party - January, 2004 (Highlands)

Yes Carmen Electra. Arguably the most beautiful women ever.

#3. LALate Mansion Pool Party - March, 2004 (Sunset Strip)

Dean Martin's former mansion headlined this party with an open bar all night.

#4. Downtown Standard Pool Party - April, 2004 (Downtown LA)

The most upscale tanning deck you can get.

#5. Asian Model's Bikini Party - March, 2004 (Downtown LA)

Teanna Kai headlined this event that had everyone showing up and showing.

#6. Hermosa Beach Bikini Model's Party - March, 2004 (Hermosa Beach)

Hermosa and Bikinis. Need we say more? If you missed this party, it returns in May.

About LALate

From its launch, LALate began publishing to its readers a weekly and often bi and tri-weekly newsletter providing details never before seen in the nightlifestyle scene. But with so many events, nearly four dozen events on its calendar per week, LALate reduces in its newsletter those events to three of the most talked about charts in LA nightlifestyle: its online nationally syndicated and branded "LALate 7-Day Planner Chart" and "LALate Hot @ 9 Chart" and "LALate New2Watch Chart", giving up to the minute information about what's hot and what's not.

Today, that newsletter covers charts across the full family of Late businesses that will include a new chart as it moves into one of this nation's top clubgoing cities later this month, opening its doors with guestlists to the #1 venues in that town the first day of operation with several dozen events per week.

About the Late Family of Businesses

With a market saturation of readers estimated at over 85% of VIP clubgoers in Los Angeles, more LA residents look to the Late family of businesses for its opinion on nightlifestyle than any other authority.

Through 2003, LALate had an unmatched entry to LA's exclusive nightlife, for example carrying first number one venue White Lotus Tuesdays through Thursdays and now carrying Lotus' successor for the number one spot, Pearl, Wednesdays through Saturdays.

The Next Late.com

In the coming weeks, the late family of businesses will launch the next Late.com, codenamed ??Late.com

??Late.com is set to launch in the coming weeks from latenight powerhouse LALate.com that has one of the fastest growing followings of clubgoers in the nation. ??Late.com has already secured guestlists for promoted nights at all the #1 venues in that town.

Unveiled to Los Angeles residents in 2002, LALate today has the biggest database of clubogers in South California having listed Los Angeles' #1 venues continuously, from White Lotus (three nights a week at its peak in 2003) to Pearl (through venue management every night of the week) to Concorde and El Centro (LA's new hot spots). "We expect to do the same for this eastern seaboard town."

Celebrating Blue Skies with Bubbles Over Colorado

Author by Anonymous

Manitou Springs, CO April 20, 2004 -- Blue Skies Inn B&B presents the first ever "Bubbles Over Colorado" Festival on May 8 & 9 in Manitou Springs. When artist Sally Thurston built her bed and breakfast inn (www.blueskiesbb.com), she chose to name it in honor of her reason to return home to Colorado, blue skies. As a thank you to the people of that city at the base of Pikes Peak where her inn is located, Thurston planned a festival on the same sky theme. For two days, blue skies above the little town of Manitou Springs will be full of bubbles.

While searching the Internet for bubble ideas, Thurston was surprised to find professional bubble blowers. Invitations went out to several on both coasts. Sterling Johnson from San Francisco will perform as Bubblesmith all day on May 8 in City Hall at 606 Manitou Ave. Johnson creates intricate “hands on” bubble poetry with just his breath, hands, light, and music! He performs in a short-sleeved tuxedo to highlight the action of his hands in bubble soap.

Flex Cartagena, known as the Bubbleguy in Delaware, will demonstrate his prolific bubble machines in Memorial Park, 500 Manitou Ave., on both days of the festival. A kite flyer in his spare time, Cartagena engineered and built several different bubble machines in order to gauge the direction of wind on a kite flying field. Cartagena's Ephemeral Sculpture Machine can create bubbles three feet wide and twelve feet long. His smaller bubble machines feature a dozen wands and significant bubble soap holding capacity. Cartagena has been known to use upwards of thirty gallons of bubble soap in a day of pleasing crowds with bubble art.

Stretch the Stiltwalking Clown from Denver will perform in Memorial Park accompanied by giant puppets. At nine feet tall, Stretch, portrayed by clown Bill Coleman, will be a commanding figure on the bubble field. Spectators can see him chase bubbles with his enormous bubble wand. Stretch has planned crowd-pleasing antics around his Solar Powered Bubble Tower.

Hands-on bubble activities will be presented for children both days. Admission to the park is free. Please see www.bubblescolorado.com for directions to the festival.

SECRETS OF DIGITAL ART REVEALED

Author by Anonymous

PALM SPRINGS--Digital Art is a subject foreign to most people; it requires explanation. Computerworks Digital Art Gallery recently explained the secrets and techniques of digital art when they opened this past month.

To most digital art presents itself as consumer merchandise-like posters. Fine digital art is different; it derives itself from the same aesthetic impulses that produce fine paintings, sculpture and architecture. There is no basic difference between fine art and fine digital art, only the tools used.

Profound appreciation of any art work requires time, thought and a developed taste. The aim of the Computerworks Digital Art Gallery is to assist with that cultivation by offering a wide variety of magnificent images throughout the world and by examining the explicit and implicit dimensions of digitally created pieces.

SUZY BOGGUSS: A NEW LABEL, A NEW ALBUM…

Author by Anonymous

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 9, 2003

HOUSTON, Texas -- Suzy Bogguss has signed with Compadre Records (distributed by RED, marketed by Emergent) and has completed her first new album in three years, Swing, which will hit the streets on June 17. The album, which is co-produced by Bogguss with Asleep At The Wheel frontman Ray Benson, marks a musical departure for Bogguss with its Western swing and traditional jazz inflections.

In addition to Benson’s instinctive guitar playing, the album features present members of Asleep At The Wheel (Jason Roberts, fiddle; David Sanger, drums) and past members (Floyd Domino, piano; Spencer Starnes, bass and John Mills, sax and clarinet.) The project was recorded at Benson’s Bismeaux Studio in Austin, Texas.

The album showcases Suzy’s flawless vocals on a variety of songs by writers including Duke Ellington ("Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me"), Nat King Cole ("Straighten Up And Fly Right"), and a couple of classics best known from recordings by Billie Holiday and Dan Hicks & the Hot Licks, ("Comes Love" and "Sweetheart" respectively.) The collection also contains two new classics written by Paul Kramer, a veteran of Bogguss’ band, plus a co-write by Kramer and Bogguss, along with five new songs by burgeoning Nashville singer/songwriter, April Barrows. Bogguss became aware of Barrows while recording her much-acclaimed Christmas album in 2000. Session musician David Hungate made the introduction when he learned that Bogguss was gravitating to a swing sound for her next album.

The production partnership with Benson came about as a result of a more unusual story. Bogguss dreamt that she and Asleep At The Wheel took a madcap tour bus ride together on the way to the Grammys. Upon awakening, it became evident to her that she needed to make a record with long-time friend, Benson. She called him and the project became a reality.

Suzy recalls, "I originally envisioned this as a duet album with ‘The Wheel’, but after hearing April’s songs, Ray and I decided that this needed to be a singer’s album."

According to Compadre Records president Brad Turcotte, "Suzy has recorded a beautiful record and it hurts none that she is one of the most talented people that I have ever met."

"I looked around a long time for a label that did things a little differently," says Suzy. "I’m really excited about working with Compadre because of their fresh perspective on the business along with their passion for the music."

ABOUT COMPADRE RECORDS

Houston- and Nashville-based Compadre Records was created to promote roots music. Its artists include Suzy Bogguss, Billy Joe Shaver (whose Compadre album sat atop the Americana Airplay Chart for eight weeks), Townes Van Zandt, Gary P. Nunn, Mike McClure and Billy Ray Reynolds. Compadre’s principals include Brad Turcotte and Logan Rogers.

a small collection of antique silver and objects of vertu

Author by Anonymous

My first purchase of silver was made in 1996, when at an antique fair I bought a briar-wood box with a silver cover.

Silver was hallmarked with the "Fascio" mark. So I understood it was made in Italy, around 1935/1940. After this first meeting with the "world of silver", I began to frequent antique markets and shops and to buy books and silver auction catalogs, looking for silver items to add to the little collection I was trying to put together.

Soon I discovered that collecting silver is an expensive business. To collect "antique" silver is a "highly" expensive business.

You may have an idea of prices looking at a Sotheby's or Christie's auction catalog, where thousands of dollars are requested for any antique silver object.

Then, I decided to devote my research (and my limited resources) to collecting Continental Silver, particularly of small dimension, attaining the result of contain costs and reduce spaces necessary to preserve my growing collection.

Even though my main interest is for silver objects, in recent years I've begun to buy non silver related items including in my collection some pieces as cameo glass vases, "barbotine" dishes, portrait miniatures, shell cameo brooches, and others.

At present I continue to look for silver and objects of vertu pieces, with preference for items of uncommon shape or use, and I've extended the field of my research to internet.
