Author by Anonymous

LOS ANGELES, CA April 22, 2004 -- A virtual unknown club for mainstream clubgoers shares top honors with a Hollywood heavyweight in the 2nd Annual LALate Best of LA Spring Awards announced today in Los Angeles. The LALate Awards name the top in LA nightlifestyle for Spring 2004 from venues to parties.

LALate.com, the most successful company on nightlifestyle in LA, with spinoff sites for Teens (TeenLate.com) and New York (NY Late.com), is the preeminent authority on nightlifestyle with one of the fastest growing followings of clubgoers in the United States and the largest following of clubogers in Southern California. In a word, as Zagat's is to restaurants and Frodor's is to travelling, LALate is to nightlifestyle. LALate is the first ever one-stop websites for residents and travelers to LA to get into the most exclusive VIP-only parties listing several dozen events sometimes per night featuring top A+ celebrities, from mansion parties to top LA venues, to secret thousand person warehouse parties with acts that rival major stadium performances.

With the largest memberships of clubgoers in Southern California and a formidable presence in eastern atlantic cities, LALate. with its ability to drop five figure sized email campaigns, has recently been sought after by corporate sponsors and venues seeking to appeal to this affluent young adult demographic.

LALate's reputation to predict what's going in and going out has garnered it a nationally reported upon success. But for LALate, happiness is saving its patrons a fortune on cover every night of the week, and publishing the most talked about weekly newsletter in Los Angeles. LALate has been featured nationally and in the Los Angeles Times.

Today's LALate Best of Spring LA Awards names the best in nightlifestyle in LA for this spring out of an estimated 2,000 parties to be carried by LALate by year end. The Awards give nods not just to venues but also to events in LA.

Award Winners

Criteria. To be a #1 venue for the season, a venue needed a combination of many factors all working at once: a) buzz, b) city wide reputation, c) attendance at capacity levels, and d) high percentage of repeat patronage. The LALate winners are the following:

a) Venues

LALate's Top 10 Current Venues in LA for Spring 2004

1. Pearl

2. Vertigos

3. Four Way Tie -

a. El Centro

b. Concorde

c. Orion

d. Sunset Room

Pearl has still proven to be the #1 venue in LA. Despite recent entries into the scene of Concorde, El Centro, and competition from previous favorites Shelter and White Lotus, Pearl, with an exceptional eye to treating its patrons with class, holds a steady grip on #1 through winter and into spring.

But the surprise for many is the jump from the #5 Overall Venue in 2003 to now #2 venue in LA - Vertigos. "We are witnessing at Vertigos something that is a dream come true for many clubgoers", said LALate.com. "For many years, clubgoers, especially males, complained in LA about pretentious crowds in Hollywood of less than average looking, overally made-up people that don't drink, don't dance, and simply flock from new venue to new venue week after week never interacting with people. Vertigos gets 5 stars as the most entertaining venue in LA with the strongest repeat patronage of any LALate-listed venue."

In 2003, LALate first introduced Vertigos as alternative to the Saturdays @ Barfly scene. "But convincing westsiders to head downtown to a predominately Latin crowd, we thought, was going to be difficult. We very wrong." People flocked to Vertigos through winter and now into Spring because of Vertigos use of $1 and $2 drinks promotions, exceptional use of varying music formats (in a given night, you hear 80s retro, todays hiphop and techno, and spanish rock), and stunning light display. "Recently, we attended Vertigos on Saturday. You would have thought 1/2 of the western world was there. This place was off the hook. It's no longer just for latins; you see asians, whites, all ethnicities."

A large tie of past, present, and future huddles the number three spot - El Centro, Concorde, Orion, and Sunset Room.

First, the past. Old favorite that seemed dead is back gangbusters - Sunset Room. Getting thumbs up for its "love to have fun" crowd, this venue, while still suffering from an o-too-crowded dancefloor and high drink spillage numbers from pushing patrons is hands down one of the most entertaining spots in Hollywood, if not the best.

Second, the present: Orion "In the area of fru-fru venues that have basin sinks made of our carved woods from a rainforest somewhere in your bathroom, Orion, the posterchild of the down-and-dirty club, where the graffiti feels as cool as the dark stairwells, attracts more patrons on a given night than two of your Hollywood venues combined." Orion gets top honors for its ability to pull in more people than an American Idol audition, 18 and over patronage, a lightshow that shocks the senses, and incredible music acts. While in many respects so different from the Sunset Rom, it shares a kindship with Sunset as constantly offering jawdropping music and the best clubgoing experiences possible.

Finally, the future. While Concorde is doing very well, El Centro is pulling in a crowd that makes you turn heads. With extreme exclusivity and top promotions, El Centro is the most "hollywood" of the hollywood venues currently. The question is - will El Centro take #1 by late spring? That remains to be seen.

b) Parties

With No Doubt's lead singer and bad boy Dennis Rodman in the house, this was a mega star studded night.

#2. The Carmen Electra and B2K Party - January, 2004 (Highlands)

Yes Carmen Electra. Arguably the most beautiful women ever.

#3. LALate Mansion Pool Party - March, 2004 (Sunset Strip)

#4. Downtown Standard Pool Party - April, 2004 (Downtown LA)

About LALate

From its launch, LALate began publishing to its readers a weekly and often bi and tri-weekly newsletter providing details never before seen in the nightlifestyle scene. But with so many events, nearly four dozen events on its calendar per week, LALate reduces in its newsletter those events to three of the most talked about charts in LA nightlifestyle: its online nationally syndicated and branded "LALate 7-Day Planner Chart" and "LALate Hot @ 9 Chart" and "LALate New2Watch Chart", giving up to the minute information about what's hot and what's not.

Today, that newsletter covers charts across the full family of Late businesses that will include a new chart as it moves into one of this nation's top clubgoing cities later this month, opening its doors with guestlists to the #1 venues in that town the first day of operation with several dozen events per week.

About the Late Family of Businesses

With a market saturation of readers estimated at over 85% of VIP clubgoers in Los Angeles, more LA residents look to the Late family of businesses for its opinion on nightlifestyle than any other authority.

Through 2003, LALate had an unmatched entry to LA's exclusive nightlife, for example carrying first number one venue White Lotus Tuesdays through Thursdays and now carrying Lotus' successor for the number one spot, Pearl, Wednesdays through Saturdays.

The Next Late.com

In the coming weeks, the late family of businesses will launch the next Late.com, codenamed ??Late.com

??Late.com is set to launch in the coming weeks from latenight powerhouse LALate.com that has one of the fastest growing followings of clubgoers in the nation. ??Late.com has already secured guestlists for promoted nights at all the #1 venues in that town.

Unveiled to Los Angeles residents in 2002, LALate today has the biggest database of clubogers in South California having listed Los Angeles' #1 venues continuously, from White Lotus (three nights a week at its peak in 2003) to Pearl (through venue management every night of the week) to Concorde and El Centro (LA's new hot spots). "We expect to do the same for this eastern seaboard town."
